In Herman Melville’s novel Moby-Dick, “the whale-line” is a rope attached to the harpoon, connecting the tiny whaling boat to a speared whale. While this line allows the whalemen to give chase to the giant creature, it is also a dangerous peril to any whalemen who may get caught in the midst of the rope’s rapid unwinding. Write a short dialogue between you and the thing/person you feel most tied to, as if you were sitting across from them at this table.
